Budapest is one of Europe's most exciting, historical and beautiful capital cities and District VIII is currently one of its most exciting areas, with a £32 million redevelopment programme (the largest urban regeneration project in Central Europe) in the process of transforming it into one of the most desirable parts of the city.
Originally known as Józsefváros, District VIII has a particularly colourful past and is the home of Hungary's National Museum. Its central position is also a top selling point, since it is very close to the centre of the city. A massive regeneration project is underway, its aim to restore some of District VIII's most important buildings and provide more much needed housing close to the city centre, but without spoiling the architectural integrity of the area or overdeveloping it.
